Be Positive!

positive-attitudes-quotes

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones,

you’ll start having positive results”

– Willie Nelson

After setting goals and making resolutions for the new year, it is so certain that challenges will come up 100% of the time to distract you from achieving your set goals and all of a sudden even the seemingly “easy” goals you’ve set begin to kind of look difficult then you start procrastinating… maybe tomorrow…, maybe next week…, maybe next month…and it goes on and on till it is never done.

That has to stop this year!

It’s time to wake up and make changes that you’ll be thankful for at the end of the year. First, we must establish who or what the determinant of the outcome of your life in this year is. No doubt, external factors do have a role to play in this but be informed that the major factor that determines your outcome or the accomplishment of your set goals is YOU! Yes YOU!

So it’s very important that you believe in the possibility of your goals becoming a reality. Let your belief form a firm foundation for everyday of this year. Then start working on them, never forget the goals, place them where you can see them every day and see yourself achieving them!

3 ways to be positive this year

Treat yourself better: When you set goals such as health and fitness goals, it is important that you do so for yourself and not because you want to please others or fit in. you have to be positive about yourself this year. Get more organized, eat healthier, exercise more, drink more water, sleep better, give yourself a treat occasionally, do something special for yourself, buy yourself a gift, see yourself in a better way, present yourself better, take better care of yourself, look better and be self-motivated. Let’s be positive about ourselves!

Treat others better: It can be really rewarding when we treat people better. There is this inner joy that comes with that. We certainly feel good when people treat us well, so why don’t we make more impact this year by treating others better? You’ll touch so many lives by this act and it will bring more opportunities your way. As an employee, resolve to treat your employer better. As an employer, resolve also to treat your employees better. Let’s be positive about others!

Go the extra mile: You have to leave your comfort zone this year. Enough of the mundanity. It’s time to change gears for the next level, a time to change old methods of doing things and embrace better ways instead. It is also time to take risks to see growth and productivity. Be adventurous this year and push yourself to do what you thought you could not do because, it is possible! Let’s be positive about our actions!

positive

It’s never too late to change your thought patterns about yourself, others and your actions. Add daily doses of positivity to these 3 aspects and watch yourself have positive results with a happier and healthier life.

Hitting Your Target!

target

It is said that poor planning precedes poor performance while proper planning prevents poor performance. We all want to achieve good results in life but not everybody is ready to do the needful- which is to plan properly. A plan is generally a diagram or list/outline of steps with timing and resources, used to achieve a desired goal. It is the road-map to achieving set goals. Having set your goals, you have to draw up a plan towards achieving each one of them. It’s like this; a goal is “what” you want to achieve while a plan is “how” to get the results! For instance, a student sets a goal to obtain a score of 90-100 % in his exams, he must be able to plan towards it strategically; he may decide to increase time spent studying, join study groups or get study aids so as to hit his target at the end of his exams. If your target is to lose some weight, you may need to draw up a weight loss plan like substituting unhealthy foods for healthier ones, eating more fruits and vegetables adding more physical activities to your daily routine and exercising more often. More specifically, this plan must be drawn step by step.

It All Starts With You

It is still early in the New Year and yet most people are probably already struggling with their New Year resolutions. A number of people have given up on the idea altogether as each year they see themselves failing to attain the heights or landmarks they’d set for themselves. The first and most important thing is NEVER QUIT. We all struggle with our resolutions mainly because we fail to realize the vital first step to take, which is self-focus. In order to improve, one must reflect deeply on one’s self and ask questions like “what have I been doing wrong”, “what can I do better” and “what am I doing today that takes me closer to who I want to be tomorrow?” It is certain that the more you ask yourself these reflective questions the more you shall realize that IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU.

Here are some things you will discover that will not only help you live up to your New Year resolutions but will ultimately improve you:

1. Negative behavioural patterns: As you reflect on yourself, you will begin to realize the harmful behavioural patterns 052713bucks-carl-sketch-blog480which continually hinder you each day from improving yourself. The Are-you-happy- bad habits you’ve hung on to for years, your approach to work and not getting enough or too much rest. Focus on the causes and effects of your present predominant behaviours. A diary or a jotter could be a very helpful way to keep track. Find out the harmful behavioural patterns that are taking you nowhere and immediately instigate a significant change in your daily routine. This leads us to the next point…

invest-in-you2. Self-investment: You will realize that a major hindrance in achieving ones goals is lack of self-confidence which corresponds to a lack of self-investment. You must invest in yourself; it is the only way you can improve yourself. Either you do so by starting frequent exercise, buying more books and reading widely or learn a new language. Each day, you must do something for yourself that would make you feel better and be better. Spare no expenses in self-investment in order to create the YOU and you will love. The more you invest in yourself, the more confident you will be and the more able you will be to achieve your resolutions.

You will also increase your…

  1. Personal Value: This is the aspect of yourself that no one else but you can touch, increase or decrease. You needvalue-1 to realize that no matter how many times you have failed, you never lose your value. Focus on the things about you that you can improve and forget about the things you can’t. Incessantly focusing on things we can’t change causes us to be insecure and underrate our own value. Accept who you are and then go on to improve your value by letting go of anything holding you back. Think of how you can increase your value in order to benefit others and not just yourself and you will not only value yourself but others would value you.

Writing a Better YOU!

index

Writing down your goals are very important when it comes to the goal setting process. “But, why?”, you may ask.

It is easy to think that having your goals all figured in your mind makes achievement certain. Let’s consider our every new year’s eve ritual- new year resolutions.

Now, try to recall  how many resolutions you made for this year have been actualized at the moment and evaluate the chances of achieving them by the end of the year.

Let’s face the facts!

  • 25 percent of people abandon their New Year’s resolutions after one week.
  • 60 percent of people abandon them within six months. (The average person makes the same New Year’s resolution ten separate times without success.)

A conclusive research by Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor  in  California proved the effectiveness of writing down goals. In this study,  participants who wrote down their goals achieved more than those who did not.

It would be a costly mistake to drift through life not knowing what you wanted out of it, let alone take the necessary steps to achieving it. You can make your life more goal directed and purposeful by committing yourself to your dreams by writing them down and coming up with an action plan to make it a reality.

Here are some reasons for writing goals down:

1. Writing your goals  help your clarify and specify what you really want. Translating thoughts into words make the thoughts more concrete.written-goals-214x300

2. Writing your goals  makes you committed to fulfilling them

3. Writing serves as a constant reminder of what you intend to achieve and what you can do each day to make it a reality

4. Writing helps you see, evaluate and celebrate your progress which boosts your confidence.

5. Writing keeps you reminded of your goals. The palest ink is better that the sharpest memory

6. Writing your goals help you visualize them, the steps and obstacles on the way to achieving them. With this, better preparation can be made to remove the obstacles.

Now that you may have been convinced of the need to write your goals, examine some of the goals you have thought of. It may relate to your personality, your job,  your career, your family, your finances, etc.

WRITE THEM DOWN!

Of course, writing your goals is not an end, but a means to an end. It is only an initial phase in the goal setting process. Soon we will consider how to write down your goals.. Stay tuned

The Art of Goal-setting

If you feel you are not movingin the right direction in life, or you are confused about your future or you seem to be under-achieving then this post is specifically for you.

Everybody wants to be successful and it could be frustrating when things aren’t going our way or when we don’t feel in control of the progression of our lives. The answer is straightforward:

The key to success is setting goals

Goal-setting in its own is an art, as it needs continuous rehearsal before one can fully yield and appreciate the benefits. Here are a few tips to effective goal-setting:

1. Write them down writing

The first and probably most important step to achieving your goals is to write them down. In a diary, on your phone, anywhere! Write them down in order as well. Preferably according to priority. Write them somewhere that is easily accessible so they act as a constant reminder of what you want.

sincere

2. Be sincere with yourself

Make sure these goals you’ve written down are what you really want and within your capacity. Know your limits. Ask yourself each day, “what can I do today to get me closer to my ultimate goal?” when you get the answer, DO IT.

3. Set clear goalsgoal_setting

Be specific when writing your goals. You shouldn’t just “want to be rich”, that’s not specific enough. Start step by step with reasonable and clear planning such as “in 3 months i would like to achieve X amount of money in my savings”. Write exactly what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it. Set short-term goals and long-term goals as clearly as you can. Also be concise so you often have them all in mind.

4. Tell a few close friends about it

Whether it’s family or your closest friends, tell them about your goals. The support you may get from them would help you and give you more confidence. They could also help by suggesting other ways to achieve your goals which you may not have realized. But don’t tell too many people as you could get carried away. Tell a few, maybe 2 or 3 close and positive people. It is important to keep positive people around you and stay focused.

5. Have a strong mindtop10_insults_mumpsimus

Once you have set a specific goal that you know you can achieve, hold it dearly. Refuse to be talked out of it. Do not be influenced by what others seem to be doing that’s working for them or people who tell you that you cannot do it. Stay focused.

6. Stay mindful of your progress

It is vital that you gauge your progress as often as you can. Whether by ticking boxes or cancelling your achievements. It enables you to complete short term goals and shows you how close or how far you really are from achieving long terms goals. This gives you a real view of your progress.

7. Set yourself up for success

Don’t distract yourself with other unnecessary things and don’t spend too much time in leisure. Discipline is very important if one is serious about achieving their goals. Put yourself in situations that will help you get a step closer to your goals. Places you go, people you meet, the things you discuss, what you wear and things you spend your time doing should all be pushing you to achieve your potential.
